Vintage Bartholomew Cocktail Chair - Project

I bought this chair from a dealer in Germany a couple of years ago but haven’t had time to restore and reupholster. I paid £150 for it.
It’s a gorgeous shape and the frame is well made and sturdy.
It will obviously need stripping back down to the frame and rebuilt. Perfect project for a keen upholsterer.

East German 1960s Bartholomew cocktail chair. circa 1965
This fantastic and stylish mid century chair was made in East Germany sometime in the 1960's.
The shape of the back flaring out from the bottom towards the top is the style known as a Bartholomew cocktail chair. It is a fantastic looking chair which ever way you look at it and would bring a lot of style to any room in the house. It is typical of this period with lovely styling: little details like the splayed tapering Barcelona leg at the front and back.
This style of chair are very fashionable at the moment, so much so they are being reproduced by most high street furniture stores but the reproductions do not have any of the character or charm of these original chairs.
CONDITION: The frame is very strong and sturdy and there is no damage to the main structure of the chair. It is 65 years old so there are some more signs of wear.
Finally I will add that it is fortable. the seat is sprung but firm and the shape of the back is very supportive.
