This ingenious device is great for forgetful people who leave things on cooker hobs, starting fires. I bought it for my 88 year old relative with early onset dementia, to prolong his independence and ability to remain in his own home. Sadly, we didn't get to use it. You fit the device in-between the electric cooker and the mains, and there's a battery-operated sensor that detects heat, lack of movement etc. When the sensor detects a risk, it switches the cooker off.
