THE BOOK OF KNOWLEDGE VOL 2,3,4,6,7 (PRE-WORLD WAR II) WAVERLEY BOOKS.
Five volumes of 'The Book of Knowledge' published by The Waverley Book Company, 96-97 Farringdon Street, London E.C.4. They are encyclopaedic style books in A-Z order covering many topics and were edited by Harold F. B. Wheeler.
I think they were published c. 1938 given the references to the year of the three kings (i.e. 1936), various sporting achievements and no mention of WWII (WWI is covered in Volume 7).
Sadly, Volume 1,5 and 8 is missing so my listing is for five volumes of what would have been an eight volume set:-
2 - BOA TO CON
3 - COO TO FLO
4 - FLO TO ISIS
6 - NAV TO SCA
7 - SCA TO ZWI
The cloth hardback covers are very faded and have varying degrees of fraying, splitting at the edges and on the spines etc. The body of the books are in good condition with no missing or torn pages but there are a few pages that have corner folds. The illustrations are a mixture of black and white/sepia and full colour.
Each book weighs c. 1.5kg and measures c. 26cm x 8.5cm x 4cm
