Stairgate by Safety 1st
This stairgate used to have a sliding knob to lock the squeeze button that opens and closes the gate. The knob broke off and only the squeeze button keeps the gate shut now. The benefit is it's much easier for an adult to open and close it.
Obviously the full safety of the gate promised and you should consider this if you're interested. Less of an issue if you want to use it for a pet.
We had this on top of the first step going up the stairs. Our child couldn't reach it for quite a while and even now at 2.5 years, she can't squeeze it fully, yet she can get up and down the stairs independently.
Note that I have three 7cm extensions like the one shown in the third picture. These are also for sale if interested (£5 each)
