Rare Prehistoric plant Japanese umbrella pine Sciadopitys

Endemic to the cloud forests of Japan and Near Threatened with extinction in the wild, the Japanese pine tree Sciadopitys verticillata is an ancient conifer with a fossil record going back at least 250 million years. Also known as Koyamaki and with great cultural significance (e.g. one of Japan's 5 sacred trees), it has no close living relatives being the sole member of the family Sciadopityaceae. The needles are unique in that there are at least 12 per node, forming a whorl, resembling an upturned umbrella.
It needs very little care, fully hardy, a beautiful and very interesting statement plant, still monly available, not available anywhere in this size. It stands 190cm tall from the floor, current soil depth 40cm from the floor. You can buy young plants from a few places - you don't get much height for your money though and it's a slow grower. If you don't want to wait for it to grow, this is a very rare opportunity to buy a healthy strong large specimen that does well in a pot. It's about to be repotted and once I've removed peting black grass, will be ready to branch out wider. I do have another more branched specimen of the same height, but bronzed as spent too long in a terracotta pot, let me know if interested.
