Up for sale is an extra fine quality late 19th century, Henry Capt of Geneva Striker Repeater Alarm Carriage Clock.
This is a column style carriage clock, made of gilt-brass (bronze doré) and beveled glass case, featuring a splendid enamel dial with black Roman numerals and signed Henry Capt, Geneve, showing subsidiary alarm dial. It is powered by an eight-day movement with striker, repeater mand button and alarm mechanism. Movement plate carries the Henry Capt Geneve signature. The es with its original leather traveling case and bronze key.
Worth mentioning Henry Capt gained a fame as a pocket watch manufacture. Henry Capt carriage clocks are quite a curiosity in the carriage clock collecting circles.
Actually any Swiss carriage clock would be a curiosity worth exploring.
K. H. Pritchard reports Henry Capt employed French made carriage clock movements, carrying his signature, which is only normal as France was the motherland of these rather sophisticated and splendid engineering instruments. One of the usual suspects this carriage clock could be attributed to, is the well known maker Drocourt.
Clock measures 16.5 (handle up) x 12.5 (without handle) x 7.5 (base) cm.
Carrying case measures 15.5 x 11.5 x 10.5 cm.
Gilt bronze case is in fair condition but would benefit from a nice cleaning and new lacquer for a shinny look. Dial is in crisp condition while hands show normal signs of aging.
Original beveled crystals are in great condition. The 8 day repeater alarm movement has a winding mechanism via key at the back, and is in working condition, however service history is unknown. The mand button works as expected.
The leather case has various signs of wear and tear. The leather strap is missing. Case would benefit from a proper restoration.
