The first figurine of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory decorated with a feather-like scaled design was made in 1871. Back then, the famous Hungarian writer Mór Jókai received a rooster with this pattern. The scaled pattern soon became known worldwide as Herend’s specialty. A variety of different animal figurines became sought after collectors’ pieces. Recently, a wider range of colors appeared in addition to the original red and beside gold ornamentation, platinum accents has e more and more popular. It is almost impossible to imitate this pattern, as the narrow or widening scales can be applied to the uneven surfaces by hand painting only.
