Pick up a bargain. These hop plants usually cost between £15 and £20 from hop specialists
and garden centres for a small rhizome, not large year old hop crowns like these.
All of my hops are grown organically post with no use of chemical fertilisers or
pesticides.
These are female Bramling Cross, First Gold and Northdown hop plants/crowns, also known
as hop rhizomes. They are good quality, healthy hop plants which I grew over last year
from April in a planter and are now ready for replanting in the garden. They are female
plants so are ideal for harvesting hops from for beer brewing or hop pillows.
Bramling Cross hops are typically in the 5.0 to 6.5 alpha acid range and, when used as late hopping for flavour, exhibit a distinctly blackcurrantish flavour. Bramling Cross
hops are used in many micro-brewery ales and in Bellhaven 80/-, Boddington's Bitter, Federation Special Ale, Felinfoel Double Dragon and many others.
First Gold are increasingly being used by home brewers and micro breweries, and mercial brewers which use them are Robinson's in their Mojo amber ale, Black Sheep Brewery's Dead Parrot and The Old Cannon brewery in their Rusty Gun beer. If used for late hopping, they exhibit a spicy and slightly orangish flavour.
Northdown hops are used in beers and ales such as Teme Valley Brewery's Talbot Blond and Talbot Porter, many of the Ilkley Brewery's beers like Mary Jane, Derby Brewing Company's Tripple Hop, Bass Draught, Worthington White Shield, Batham's Best Bitter, Ruddle's County, Tetley's Bitter, Beamish Irish Stout, Home Brewery Mild and numerous ercially brewed and micro brewery ales.
If you do not wish to use these plants for beer making, the Hops also make excellent climbing plants to grow up trellises or walls and fences to cover them up if unsightly. They grow around 12 to 25 feet long with several shoots and have large leaves and nice greenish cone shaped flowers.
Other people use hop flowers in a small draw-string bag or sock inside their pillow case at night to aid good sleep.

Just to clarify, hop plants are perennials and can give strong growth for over 20 years.
Note: having previously sold over 80 of these large hop plants/hop crowns in years gone by
on Ebay and vagood (they are much larger and stronger than a simple hop rhizome), I can now say that e out of the planters from two to 4 times larger and heavier than the usual hop plants sold by garden centres and hop farms. In my experience you have no more than a 50% chance of a small rhizome succeeding after planting. Mine are equivalent to a second year hop plant and these large, strong crowns are almost certain not to fail.
They generally weigh between 100 and 250 grams each and have crowns from around 15 to 25 mm in diameter. They monly from 10 inches to 18 inches (25 X 45cm) long and usually have several roots on them the thickness of a man's little finger, but just how large any given plant will be is unknown at the time of sale, until I remove it from the planter.
The pictures show a couple of individual hop roots which I grew last year (and are examples of what is on offer this year) plus a couple of shots of my four mature hops which I took at the end of August last year to let you know what they are like when fully grown. The larger plant/root is a two year matured root and the smaller a one year root.
Each plant will cost £10.00 for a one year mature root and £13.00 for a two year mature root.

If you want me to post them, postage and packaging will be £2.99 for first-class postage for a one year root and £4.45 for a two year plant.
The price is not negotiable irrespective of whether you want one plant or several plants but postage may increase.
Please note: I am not mercial seller. I grow a few hops each year to replace any of my own mature hops which might need replacing and if none do, I just sell them on. I have around 10 surplus this year.
