EXTERIOR
Finished in a gleaming coat of Champagne Metallic this lovely 280SL looks particularly elegant beneath our showroom lights. The paintwork presents superbly all round with no unsightly marks or major blemishes to report. Despite its age and mileage the car retains a very sharp appearance with no signs of corrosion in any of the usual places; the brightwork is also in excellent condition. Furthermore, the dark brown hood remains in pristine order and the hardtop also presents impeccably, really complementing the overall condition of the SL. All in all, a fantastic R107 in truly mileage-defying condition throughout.
INTERIOR
The car's interior certainly reflects its pampered life. The 'Dattel' chequered cloth/leatherette seats front and rear are in excellent condition, still feeling soft and supple with almost no wear to the upholstery. Amazingly there's no marking or damage to any of the walnut trim, and all the switchgear is still reassuringly solid to operate; an original Blaupunkt radio also remains in place and is fully operational. In the footwells the richly coloured carpets remain in pristine condition, and are well protected by a set of genuine Mercedes overmats in complementing cream.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The under-bonnet area is clean and tidy, not overly dressed but in very good original condition. The 2.7-litre straight six fires into life first turn of the key and the 4-speed automatic gearbox operates perfectly, feeling smooth and pulling through the gears with ease. The last service was carried out in April 2021 by marque specialists SS Motors at the current mileage of 107k miles. The MOT is valid until April 2022.
WHEELS, TYRES AND BRAKES
This R107 sits on its original 14-inch 'Mexican Hat' style alloys, all of which present in excellent condition with no damage or corrosion issues to report. The wheels are shod in a matching set of quality Vredestein Sprint Classic tyres with plenty of tread remaining. The brakes have also been checked and remain in fine operational condition; new rear brake pads have just been fitted.
HISTORY FILE
This charming SL was first registered in March 1984. It has now driven just 107k miles in the hands of only 4 registered keepers from new. The car is accompanied by an excellent service history with a staggering 23 entries in the original service booklet. The paperwork is complete with all the original handbooks, a selection of period sales brochures, and a raft of maintenance invoices further verifying the low mileage. The car has very recently been serviced and MOT'd by Mercedes-Benz specialists SS Motors in Weybridge; it has also just been fully inspected by our trusted classic car workshop for the new keeper's peace of mind.
