For gaming on the go. On top of the absolute mountain of games available through app stores like Google Play and Amazon Underground, there are emulators for almost every game console outside of the current generations with wide support for retro titles. And to make the platform even pelling, there’s no shortage of manufacturers making gaming-centric Android devices. Enter JXD.
This device is reasonably well-powered, with an NVIDIA K1 processor and 2 GB of RAM. JXD recently released an upgrade to the S192. The Singularity 192K, or S192K, offers some improved specs and a switch to the Rockchip platform.
Component wise, the S192K is very similar to the S192. It shares the same 7-inch 1920x1200 display, the same 10,000 mAh battery, support for microSD support, and the same button layout, speaker setup, and 5 MP front-facing camera. The main changes are the increased 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, which double that of its predecessor, and the switch from the NVIDIA K1 to the quad-core Rockchip RK3288 SoC with Mali-T764 graphics.
Android 5.1 or newer should be fine. Speaking of emulation, that’s what JXD is heavily pushing for this device. The button layout is reminiscent of console gamepads, and they make mention of emulation several times on the product page. The unit even ships with a “game download center” that’s essentially a hub to download over 10,000 games (most likely ROMs). It also seems that the device has emulators for 18 different consoles built into it, but the translation of the website didn’t make this clear. The legality of this in the States is questionable, so we may not see a release of the console over here.
There’s also an HDMI out that allows the device to be connected to a High-definition TV for couch gaming, provided the cable is long enough. JXD advertises gaming at 4K, but with the low-powered chip, that may be out of reach for some apps.
