Opportunity for those age 18 to 28 (16-18 via parents/school) who want to learn about gardening and conservation at a garden educational charity (Stephen Cox Garden Trust: registered charity #1174239)
Advancing education in horticulture & conservation, its projects & opportunities include:
research; mentoring; resource for those with learning difficulties (incl.placements via Wiltshire Council special education unit); E.U. residential student places; help for young unemployed; public information; making videos on conservation; U.K. universities student conservation managers.
The placement is flexible and for any period of time for as little or as long and as frequently as you wish.
You will be learning skills by helping maintain collections of plants and landscaping of a unique garden.
It's a friendly atmosphere and lots of interesting things to do and learn. The subjects/skills taught are broadly in line with RHS Levels 1 & 2.
You will be able to gain skills and obtain experience in a range of topics in: Conservation; Gardening; Landscape & Design; Wildlife.
(this includes learning about fruit and vegetable gardening; maintenance & shaping of trees & shrubs; pond; habitats; lawns; and also perennial & biennual flower plants from seeds and cuttings. And all other aspects of gardening)
There is a unique, large very well equipped Library and a garden study room. There is also a fully equipped gym.
We have policy documents on: Health & Safety; Risk Assessment; Student Welfare. You will not be left alone in the garden and there is always someone on hand for support and advice.
It is midway between Chippenham and Calne on the 55 bus route from Swindon. There is also a bus from Bath, Devizes etc.
