MK1 TT (Type 8N) Background:
Few cars have managed the transition from concept to production model quite as successfully as the Audi TT. Created by the VW Group Design Centre in California with Porsche firmly in their sights, the concept car was first unveiled at the 1995 Frankfurt motor show. The world was aghast and three years later, even more remarkably little had changed when it made its production debut in September 1998. The world loved it and sales soared, the TT was the boutique car of choice for the late 90's and early 00's and a design icon was born
Provenance:
Built in 2000 to UK RHD specification at Audis Gyor plant it was supplied new by SMC-Biler of Esbjerg Denmark but for UK first registration to Danish former oil trader and now legendary London fashion magnate Ole Peder Bertelsen. The exact reasoning for the ing from Esbjerg are unclear, waiting lists for TTs where certainly huge at this time but its improbable that a man as well connected as Mr Bertelsen could not get his hands on the must have car of the day. We do however know that he originally came from Esbjerg and the delivery was timed around his 70th Birthday in late 2000 so perhaps it was simply a nostalgic decision to have the car from his home town. The vehicle was specified the vehicle in Denim Blue Metallic (LZ5W) with matching Blue (N5D/JP) Valcona leather. He would go on to keep the vehicle for the next 18 years although it would be placed SORN from 2015 until his unfortunate passing in 2018. At this point the vehicle was transferred to his wife. Post layup the vehicle was missioned including: 4 new tyres, timing belt and waterpump, new alternator, new battery and a haldex overhaul.
Offered with incredibly low miles supported by a fully documented ownership and a history file of invoices for maintenance, old MOTs, Tax discs and even the Danish delivery and PDI paperwork this really is as good as it gets.
Exterior:
The Denim Blue metallic paint is incredible with a deep glossy shine. The panel gaps are even and totally original. The wheels are totally original, unmarked and un-refurbished. The tyres are new matching Toyos the originals were replaced due to age not wear. All badges, glass and trim are original and unmarked and factory stickers remain including under the rear spoiler. Evidently this car has always been garaged and it absolutely shows.
Interior:
The interior is a fabulous place to reside with factory blue leather and that iconic dash. The seats, carpets, mats and every piece of trim are absolutely factory fresh even the metal gear knob is totally unmarked. The switchgear is all undamaged and fully functional and the dash pod illuminates correctly with no missing LEDs of faulty readings. This is a truly time warp car.
