Graduated medicine glass with minim measure, in case, British(?), 1870-1930
Medicine glasses and minim measures like these remained standard pieces of equipment for decades. They were used for accurately measuring out liquid medicines. A minim was a measurement used by apothecaries, equivalent to one drop of water. Minim measure was used for measuring \"minims\" (one drop) . 60 minims made a fluid drachm and there were 8 drachms to the ounce
Two scales, in teaspoons and tablespoons, are scratched on to the side of the medicine glass, which was used to measure out larger quantities of medicines. These measures could have been used in the home but were often carried by doctors or formed part of a nurse’s kit when carrying out home visits.
Hand-etched medicine glass and minim measure set consists of (a) a medicine glass and a minim posed of (b) a container with (c) a lid, both covered in textured leather, and (d) a small measuring glass es in a partment in the centre of the container covered with its own (e) small lid.

Condition:
The black leather covering the container and lid is slightly damaged on the edge and shows some wear. On the base there is more wear, commensurate with having been used in practice, and placed on surfaces, creating wear.
