Your new roleReporting into the Head of Accounting Services the Accounting Controller will manage a team (4-5 Accounts Assistants) in the provision of accounting services to companies in the group. The Accounts Controller will manage a team within the Central Accounting Services and support the Head of Accounting Services with the delivery of accounting services to group entities and portfolios managed by Group in UK, US and Europe. The Central Accounting Services function is responsible for ensuring that:Vendor invoices and employee expenses are paid in line with agreed termsAll general ledger processing is accurate and timelyComplete and accurate accounting records are maintainedEffective financial controls are in placeManagement expenses are monitored and controlled in line with budget and strategic planFinancial reporting for UK Business is compliant with all statutory and regulatory requirementsFinancial information provided to the Group via consolidation returns (Magnitude) in respect of the Groups managed portfolios is compliant with the required group standards and timescaleThe Accounts Controller will be a qualified accountant, have strong technical accounting knowledge to act as a technical reference point for accounting queries and good management and organisation skills to ensure the team works together to meet all accounting and reporting deadlines.The Accounts Controller will have autonomy in the decision-making process regarding the running of the team, implementation of controls, processes and procedures to ensure the team runs smoothly and efficiently.Main AccountabilitiesEnsure all technical and non-technical payments, and all general ledger entries are processed accurately and in a timely mannerEnsure technical results and broker ledger balances between underwriting, actuarial and general ledger systems are reconciled on a quarterly basisMaintain the PeopleSoft general ledger ensuring that data is loaded accurately and that the appropriate monthly controls are adhered toEnsure that a high-quality service is delivered to internal clients in terms of: timely delivery, accuracy of data, responsiveness to queries, reconciliations madeImprove and optimise the accounts production process and the quality of reports producedLead and develop the team. Manage the workload and performance of team members with particular focus on productivity and process optimisation while ensuring teams are motivated and capable of multi-tasking, by emphasising constant communication.Build and maintain effective working relationships with key business contactsLiaise with external auditors to manage the year end audit process where necessaryManage ad hoc finance projects as requiredWhat you'll need to succeedQualified Accountant or equivalent level of competence with experience in financialreporting/management accounting environmentSound knowledge of IFRS accounting and experience within the insurance industryProven track record of excellent analytical and problem-solving skillsGood understanding of processes and relevant IT software packages and applicationsExcellent organisation, planning and people management skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with effectively with colleagues across cultures
