This Sullivan Piano Solo Album contains 21 melodies from the famous Gilbert and Sullivan Operas (copyright 1924), which were produced by The D’Oyly Carte Opera Company. The charming simplified arrangements have been edited and fingered by Thomas Dunhill. Published by Chappell & Co. Ltd. of New Bond Street, London as part of the Chappell’s Popular Albums Series.

The editorial note in this album states: “The delightfully whimsical and melodious creations of Gilbert And Sullivan are our only really national operas. No works of art are so popular or so intimately known all over the English-speaking musical world as these. They are a permanent joy, alike to the cultured musician and to every lover of melody.

Sullivan’s operas appeal not only to those who have known them since the days when they were new, but equally to the younger generation who find a youthful freshness of spirit in their gay vivacity and simple tenderness which no posers have been able to capture in a like degree.

The little pianoforte pieces in this volume have been arranged with a view to giving delight to quite young players and others of modest skill who may desire to familiarise themselves with music which is full of the happiest recollections.

This is a private sale from a pet, smoke and Covid free home. This soft covered portrait format 37 numbered pages book of piano music was originally purchased in the 1960’s. It has only been lightly used and is therefore in very good condition. There are no missing or loose pages in this nice clean copy, nor are there any tears or stains or handwritten notes on its pages. For many years it has been stored away from sunlight in a clean, dry environment and unused as I no longer have a piano.
