1880 Antique Walnut Green Man Highly Carved X Frame Throne Chair

Antique Walnut Green Man Carved X Frame Chair.
Historically originated with the Egyptians 1500 BC in the form of Savonarola chairs, later adopted by the romans, and were then folding travel chairs. However X frame chairs such as this one were designed on the basic X shape, do not fold. The one listed here incorporates a carved medieval green man to the front area of the seat. Green man pieces of furniture are highly collectable and sort after!
The back of the chair and arms are profusely carved to a very good standard and are more appealing and decorative than many of the leather copies seen.
This is an antique so will have signs of use.
